R-Z156 is a major branch of R-Z301 and is widely represented in Germanic speaking populations. It contributed significantly to Iron Age and early medieval tribal groups such as the Saxons, Lombards and Franks. Z156 lineages often show deep substructure and regional differentiation.
Found across Germany, the Netherlands, England, northern France and Denmark. Less frequent in Scandinavia but still present.
Under Z156, several clusters exist including R-Z305, R-DF96 and R-Z304. These branches show fine scale links to medieval Germanic groups.
R-Z156 contributes heavily to the genetic reconstruction of early medieval European population movements.
