Overview

R-P310 is the branch from which the two major Western European R1b lineages originate: R-P312 and R-U106. This node marks the beginning of the explosive demographic growth associated with the spread of Indo European derived Bronze Age cultures across the European subcontinent.

Geographic distribution

High frequencies in central and western Europe. Nearly all modern Western European R1b men fall under P310 derived lines.

Ancient DNA

  • Bell Beaker and subsequent Bronze Age samples across Europe
  • Cultural complexes such as Unetice and Tumulus culture showing derived branches

Phylogeny & subclades

R-P310 subdivides into R-P312 and R-U106, which dominate the Western European R1b genetic landscape.

  • R1b-P312
  • R1b-U106

Notes & context

R-P310 is one of the fastest expanding paternal lineages in European prehistory.
