Overview

Q-Y2435 is a major Paleo-Arctic paternal lineage representing the ancient hunter-gatherer societies that inhabited the northern Siberian tundra and forest-tundra zones during the early Holocene. This clade occupies a key position in the reconstruction of the demographic histories of Arctic Siberia and shows connections to ancient gene pools predating later expansions of Uralic, Turkic and Tungusic populations.

Geographic distribution

Observed among Nganasan, Dolgan, Evenki, and some Chukchi–Koryak-influenced groups in Arctic Siberia. Its distribution mirrors traditional reindeer herding, riverine hunting and tundra-based subsistence zones of early Holocene populations.

Ancient DNA

  • Ancient northern Siberian genomes show ancestry consistent with Y2435-level lineages.
  • The timing correlates with early Holocene climatic stability in the Siberian Arctic.
  • Population structure suggests long-term continuity despite later linguistic and cultural overlays.

Phylogeny & subclades

Q-Y2435 branches parallel to Y1434 and L330, representing a northern ecological zone lineage with drift-heavy microbranching.

Notes & context

Y2435 helps clarify ancient links between Siberian Arctic populations and earlier Pleistocene inhabitants of the region.
