Overview

N1b* designates basal lineages within the N1b clade that are positive for the core N1b markers (F2930/CTS2929) but negative for B170, which defines the Yakut-centered N1b1 radiation. These basal individuals provide crucial phylogenetic information about the early formation of the N1b stem prior to the major Yakut founder event.

Geographic distribution

Extremely rare and mainly documented in isolated Siberian individuals. Small numbers have been reported in the Amur and Transbaikal regions, supporting a deep eastern Siberian origin for N1b.

Ancient DNA

  • Upstream N1b* signatures appear in several late Holocene Siberian genomes.
  • These ancestral lineages precede the demographic formation of the Yakut-associated B170 cluster.

Phylogeny & subclades

N1b* represents the ancestral set of N1b before the B170 mutation gave rise to N1b1. It preserves the internal branching structure of pre-Yakut N1b.
