Overview
N-B528 is a major sub-branch of F3361, representing a key paternal lineage of western Siberian and Uralic-speaking populations. This clade formed in the Bronze–Iron Age transition within the Ob–Ural forest zone. Archaeological and linguistic correlations indicate that B528-bearing populations were part of the ancestral groups contributing to modern Khanty and Mansi.
Geographic distribution
B528 is most common among western Siberian Uralic groups (Khanty, Mansi) and in the Ob–Irtysh river systems. Minor presence occurs among Komi, Nenets and northern Russian populations through historic contact.
Ancient DNA
- Upstream P43 signatures appear in ancient forest-steppe genomes of the Ural region.
- B528’s timing corresponds with demographic isolation of early Ob–Ugric communities.
- Comparisons show B528 predates Turkic expansions of the region.
Phylogeny & subclades
Sits directly under F3361, forming one of its main Siberian/Uralic components. B528 has multiple downstream private branches visible in modern BigY datasets.
Notes & context
N-B528 is required for scientifically accurate representation of Uralic P43 structure.
